HOT, DRY, NIAGARA SUMMER:
HENRY OF PELHAM STARTS
37TH WINE-GRAPE HARVEST
Cool start to the 2025 season balanced by a hot summer and well-timed rain.
St. Catharines, Ontario, September 3rd, 2025 - Earlier this morning on Niagara's Short Hills Bench, the first ripe grapes of the 2025 harvest were hand-picked at Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery. Picking for the award-winning winery's 37th vintage began 5 days later than the 2024 harvest.
"We are excited for the start of what looks like one of the more promising vintages in several years." said Matthew Speck, Senior Vice President of Operations, Henry of Pelham. "We had a cooler than usual spring followed by an amazing and very hot and dry summer which is perfect for grape vines. The early fall has turned to cool nights and warm dry days which is also now perfect for ripening the fruit but also retaining the bright fresh fruit characters that Niagara is famous for. We expect the crop size to be fairly typical in quantity but has the potential to produce exceptional quality wines." This year's harvest began as usual with hand-picking Pinot Noir for our award-winning Cuvée Catharine traditional method sparkling wines and Henry of Pelham Charmat method sparkling wine. This will be followed by our iconic Baco Noir and Chardonnay for our sparkling wines next week. |

“We had a cooler, slower start to the 2025 growing season but with a very warm July and August, we are back on track for an early September start. With this ample heat and well-timed rains, the vineyards produced a balanced crop, small clusters, and plenty of flavour." said Lawrence Buhler, Head Winemaker, Henry of Pelham. "Similar to 2024, you can expect strong varietal character in all our 2025 wines."
Wines from Henry of Pelham's 2025 vintage will be available in market starting in early 2026 led by our Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé, and Riesling. |
