Plan Your Day in St. Catharines
Coming to St. Catharines, Ontario for the weekend and not sure what to do? We’ve got you covered with a few of our favourite local spots, including a stop at Henry for a tasting!
Start your day with a tasty brunch at St Catharine’s local French-inspired bistro, Mirepoix. Pick from dishes like lobster benedict, or sourdough waffles and top it off with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice!
Walk off your meal by taking a hike through the Short Hills Provincial Park from the Pelham Rd. entrance. With trails ranging from less than a kilometre to over 6kms, choose your route and admire the beautiful nature, including two waterfalls, and wildlife including white-tailed deer, chipmunks, and birds.
Henry of Pelham Estate Winery:
After you enjoy a walk in nature, take the two-minute drive over to Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery for a walk-in wine tasting, including three samples of sustainable wine with a bag of buttery popcorn. Choose from an assortment of premium VQA wines directly from our Estate in the Short Hills Bench sub appellation of the Niagara Peninsula including crowd-pleasers like the full-bodied red wine Old Vines Baco Noir, the rich white wine Three Hills Chardonnay, or the award-winning Canadian sparkling wine Cuvée Catharine.
Short Hills Kitchen Restaurant:
If you get hungry while visiting Henry of Pelham, join us at the NEW Short Hills Kitchen Restaurant for a selection of old favourites like the charcuterie board, and new offerings like the Tofu Bahn Mi with sesame cucumber salad or Overnight Brisket with greens and mac and cheese. If you’re not finished with us yet, stay for the daily 1pm tour to learn about the history of the winery from one of our knowledgeable retail associates and visit our underground barrel cellar.
Downtown St. Catharines Restaurants:
Make your way to Downtown St. Catharines to visit some fantastic restaurants. Some of the top hits foodwise include OddBird or Pharmacii, both of which are modern, funky and cool places for a casual, but premium bite to eat. If you are looking for more of an upscale fine dining experience, Wellington Court is a lovely choice.
Downtown St. Catharines Shopping:
Some of the boutique shops downtown include Garden City Essentials which is filled with natural lifestyle goods, Beechwood Donuts that makes gourmet, you-wouldn’t-think-they-are-vegan donuts and the rocking music store Mindbomb Records.
The Film House at Performing Arts Centre:
If you would like to take a seat after an active day, check out The Film House at The Performing Arts Centre for a movie. The Film House screens new, unique, independent films as well as many classics and the latest documentaries paired with wine and craft beer if you so desire!
After a full day, check in to The Juniper Inn, Niagara’s first boutique hotel where life’s little luxuries and respect for the environment meet. Located in Port Dalhousie which is only a 15-minute drive from downtown, it is steps aways from the Martindale pond, the Marina beach, the Royal Henley rowing course and the Lakeside Port Carousel.
On your second day in St. Catharines, we recommend stopping by Balzac’s Coffee Roasters – right across the street from the Juniper Inn. Pick up a toasty drink and a treat and take a stroll down the brand new pier. Enjoy the breeze in your hair and the Toronto skyline view on a clear day.
