Whether you’re visiting for the day or a week, Niagara is the perfect getaway to enjoy the ever-growing food and drink scene and to get in some relaxing time in nature.

If you’re looking for things to do in Niagara this weekend, check out some of these options to show you the best of what the region has to offer.

Take a Journey behind the Falls

Cool off on a hot summer’s day in Niagara with a “journey behind the falls.” This experience will get you up close and personal with the natural wonder of the world. The adventure will begin with you going down 125-feet by elevator and making your way through tunnels made of bedrock behind the Falls. You’ll then come out onto observation decks located at the base of the Falls where the mist will be refreshingly cool on a hot day.

Hike a portion of the Bruce Trail

The Bruce Trail is Canada’s largest marked footpath spanning along the Niagara Escarpment and all the way to Tobermory, Ontario. The path is 904 km long, starting at Queenston Heights which is a short drive from Niagara Falls. Enjoy scenic views along the escarpment while you explore this section of the trail.

Bike the Niagara River Recreation Trail

This 52 km long paved recreation trail hugs along the Canadian side of the Niagara River, offering stunning views of the water. It’s a lovely spot to take your bike or there are bike renting options along the route if you don’t have your own. The trail begins at Fort George where you can explore some of the region’s history and then head out above the water for the gorgeous views.

Explore Clifton Hill

Clifton Hill is one attraction that you can’t miss on your day trip to the Niagara Falls Region! From haunted houses, to ferris wheels, arcade games, food and drinks, Clifton Hill is a street leading right down to the Falls offering entertainment at every step. Enjoy a 175-feet tall ferris wheel ride that gives you the best view of the Falls and various other attractions. Don’t miss the 10pm fireworks show over the Falls every night throughout the summer until October 10th.

Stroll through the Niagara Botanical Gardens

Have a wander through 99 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens that offer a variety of blooms each season. Just a quick 10 minute drive from Niagara Falls, the gardens are located along the Niagara Parkway and are a perfect stop during your day in the Falls. Along the walking route, you’ll enjoy perennials, azaleas, herbs and the famous rose garden with over 2,400 roses. The Niagara Park Botanical Gardens is also home to the Butterfly Conservatory which features over 2000 varieties of colourful butterflies.

Visit Port Dalhousie

A quick drive from Niagara Falls, Port Dalhousie is a charming beach-front town on Lake Ontario that has one of the best beaches in the region. Grab an ice cream or a coffee from one of the local shops and stroll down the pier while enjoying the breeze off the lake and the picturesque beach views. Stop for a glass of Niagara wine or a bite to eat at one of the patios in town. Port Dalhousie is also home to the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta so you may be able to catch a race while you’re there too!
